5 myths about teeth whitening

Myth 1: Charcoal scrubs stains away

Charcoal is abrasive. It doesn't selectively remove stains — it removes a little bit of tooth every time. Fine once a year, disastrous weekly.

Myth 2: Lemon and baking soda are "natural" whiteners

Lemon juice has a pH of about 2. Acid + abrasion is the fast track to sensitive teeth.

Myth 3: Whitening damages enamel

Professional peroxide-based whitening, done correctly, does not damage enamel. It temporarily opens microscopic pores — which is why teeth can feel sensitive for a day or two.

Myth 4: One session fits everyone

Whitening results depend on the type of discoloration. Yellow tones respond well; grey tones much less. A quick consult saves money.

Myth 5: LED kits from the internet are the same as clinic treatment

The LED does essentially nothing. The gel concentration does — and that's what's regulated.
